History of the Department

1.     History of the Department of Mathematics and Statistics

                        Department of Mathematics is one of the oldest departments of the institution and also among the Andhra University and AdiKavi Nannaya University affiliated colleges, established in the year 1958. It was formally inaugurated by Dr C D Deshmukh, the then UGC Chairman, under the principal ship of Mrs. L D Souza

          Then Miss K S Gomati, Miss A. Sita, Mr. A L Mohan, Miss S.Sarada, Mr. P Lakshmipathi, rendered their services at early stages of the department. Miss Y Subhashini Kumari,& Miss Dr G Lalitha joined in 1962 in the department and both of them worked about 38 long years in various positions, under whose guidelines the Department developed in multi-directions.   

          The department functioned in old campus about three Decades. In 1987 it was shifted to new campus and is situated in Science Block. After introducing the course B.Sc with Maths, Physics and computer science, in 1988 the faculty of computer science joined in the department and the department was renamed as department of mathematics and computer science. The Post Graduate course in mathematics was also started in the year 1999. Again, after statistics subject has been introduced with Mathematics and computer combination in 1999 the name of the Department has changed to Department of Mathematics & Statistics.
